Who will become the 2004 holder of the coveted and legendary* Pawtuckaway Ice-Out Trophy? (*note, see below)
Register your guess now and stay tuned to find out what date the Official Pawtuckaway Ice-Out Jury declares to be Ice-Out 2004 and when the temp first gets balmy. (Ice-out is defined as when the surface of the lake is 90% ice-free, as measured by the Pawtuckaway Ice-Out Jury. Balmy means the first week after March 20 when it hits 70 degrees F.)
All Guesses must be registered by March 20.
Here's an important difference from last year. In 2004 you can guess more than once. Every qualified guesser can submit a guess each week during the guessing period (Feb 2 - Mar 20). All of your guess will be entered into the contest. For those of you scrambling for a calendar, that's a total of eight guesses for each person. Also, in order to increase the excitement for the winners, and the embarassment for the losers, we will be revealing the names of who-made-what-guess from the very start.
There are a few rules.
This year's winner will
- become the holder-of-record of the trophy,
- receive a swell prize from from our sponsor Mountain Road Trading Post
- and most important, will have bragging-rights for the entire year.
Prize: Grand prize for best two-part guess. Consolation prizes to those guessing closest before and after the ice-out date, and the first balmy day.
The winner will be celebrated at a party... err... ceremony to be held on a Saturday afternoon soon after Ice-Out (we're REALLY gonn ado this this year!) at a location to be announced (how about in an island?)
Check back here often for reports on prizes, jury members and the general progress of Pawtuckaway Ice-Out 2004.
Jack Hodgson, Ice-Out 2004 Chairman
* Note: Alright, so this is actually only the second year we've ever done this, but we're pretending that it is part of a long tradition. One day that will be true. You'll see.
